Introduction to the subject:

Welsh is a statutory subject taught throughout Key Stage 3 and as a full GCSE subject
in Key Stage 4. Pupils are taught how to read, write and speak in the target
language as well as developing their literacy skills.

 

KS3:

Year 7 Themes by term:-

Autumn Term – School, Describing Friends

Spring Term – Me and My Family, The Area

Summer Term – Wales and the World, Holidays in Wales

 

Year 8 Themes by term:-

Autumn Term – Daily routine, Healthy Eating and Keeping Fit

Spring Term – When I was Young, Leisure and Hobbies

Summer Term – Fashion and Technology, Money and Shopping

 

Year 9 Themes by term:-

Autumn Term – Sports, Health, Fitness and Young People’s Problems

Spring Term – The Past Tense, Summer Holidays

Summer Term – Film and Television, Music

KS4:

Welsh at KS4 is taught as a full GCSE subject over two years with the first element of the exam being sat in the Spring term of year 10. Pupils are taught three broad themes throughout both years, Youth, Employment and Wales and the World. Pupils are encouraged to speak, read and write independently so there is an expectation that they learn the vocabulary lists provided at the beginning of the course.
