From Ysgol Bryn Alyn to First Class Honours in Law

At Ysgol Bryn Alyn, we are always proud to hear about the achievements of our former students, and Cameron Hughes is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through determination, ambition and hard work.

Cameron attended Ysgol Bryn Alyn from 2014 to 2019 and recently graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Law (LLB), the highest classification awarded at undergraduate level.

Reflecting on his time at school, Cameron believes Ysgol Bryn Alyn provided the foundation he needed to develop as both a student and a young adult.

"YBA provided the exact foundation I needed to grow."

Cameron credits several members of staff with helping him develop the confidence to pursue opportunities beyond what he thought possible.

"Thanks to the unwavering belief and encouragement of Mrs Threadgold, Mrs Hennessy and Mrs Jones, I found the confidence to push past my own perceived boundaries."

The confidence he gained at Ysgol Bryn Alyn enabled him to step into public life, working with Flintshire Council and even standing in political elections, experiences that helped shape his personal and professional development.

One of the most important lessons Cameron took from his time at school was the meaning behind the Ysgol Bryn Alyn motto:

"My time at YBA taught me the true weight of the motto: 'Dim heb ymdrech - Nothing Without Effort'."

That lesson remained at the heart of Cameron's journey through higher education. Through dedication, perseverance and a commitment to achieving his goals, he successfully earned a First Class Honours degree in Law.

Cameron believes that the support available at Ysgol Bryn Alyn gives students the confidence and ambition to achieve great things.

"YBA gives you the confidence, ability and push towards great success and achievement. Putting in the effort and leaning into the whole teaching team who believe in you means you can achieve far more than you thought possible."

For current students, his message is straightforward:

"What you put in, you get out."

Cameron's story is a powerful reminder that success is built on effort, resilience and the willingness to embrace opportunities. By believing in himself, accepting support from those around him and working hard towards his goals, he has achieved an outstanding academic success and laid strong foundations for an exciting future.
