Duke of Edinburgh's Award at YBA
At YBA, we are proud to offer students the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE), one of the UK's most respected youth achievement programmes. Under the guidance of our dedicated Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator, Mrs Liz Thomas, students can work towards both the Bronze and Silver Awards, developing valuable life skills while creating unforgettable memories.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award encourages young people to challenge themselves through a combination of volunteering, physical activity, skill development and expedition work. At YBA, our expedition experiences are particularly exciting, with students taking part in both walking and canoeing expeditions, where they learn teamwork, navigation, leadership, resilience and problem-solving in real-world environments.

Completing a Bronze or Silver Award helps students grow in confidence and independence. Participants learn how to manage their time, work effectively with others, overcome challenges and take responsibility for their own goals. These qualities are highly valued by colleges, universities and future employers, making the award an excellent addition to any personal statement, CV or application.

Beyond the practical benefits, the DofE provides students with the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, build lasting friendships and gain a real sense of achievement. Whether navigating a countryside route, paddling as part of a canoe expedition or contributing to their local community through volunteering, students develop experiences and memories that stay with them for life.

At YBA, we believe the Duke of Edinburgh's Award is far more than a qualification. It is a journey of personal growth that equips young people with the confidence, determination and skills needed to succeed in education, employment and beyond.
