Pupil Participation and School Council
Your Voice Matters
At Ysgol Bryn Alyn, we believe that every pupil should have the opportunity to be heard, influence decisions and contribute positively to the life of our school. Pupil participation is central to our school community, and all pupils are encouraged to become active stakeholders in shaping our shared future.
Our School Council provides pupils with a meaningful voice and ensures that their ideas, opinions and experiences are considered when decisions are made. Council members work closely with pupils, staff, governors and members of the wider community to make Ysgol Bryn Alyn an inclusive, supportive and ambitious school for everyone.
Celebrating Our Successes
The School Council has a proud record of achievement. Its commitment, teamwork and positive impact have been recognised through a number of significant successes, including:
Winning School Group of the Year
Achieving the prestigious Green Flag Award
Meeting the Mayor of Wrexham
Taking part in meetings and discussions with MP Andrew Ranger
Representing the views of pupils within the school and the wider community
Leading projects that promote inclusion, sustainability and positive change
These achievements demonstrate the important role that pupils play at Ysgol Bryn Alyn. They also provide exciting opportunities for pupils to develop confidence, leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
How Can Pupils Get Involved?
There are many ways for pupils to participate in school life and make their voices heard.
Form Representatives
Each form has the opportunity to select representatives who listen to the views of their classmates and share their ideas, suggestions and concerns. Form representatives help to ensure that every pupil has a way to contribute.
Year Representatives
Year representatives bring together the views of pupils across their year group. They communicate key messages, support consultation activities and help identify priorities for the School Council and pupil committees.

Pupil Committees
Pupils can also join one of our pupil committees. These committees are jointly led by our Year 11 prefects, giving older pupils the opportunity to develop their leadership skills while supporting younger pupils to participate confidently.
Our pupil committees are:
Cynefin
Teaching and Learning
Community and Fundraising
Health and Wellbeing
Diversity and Inclusion
Each committee focuses on an important area of school life. Pupils work together to gather ideas, plan activities, lead projects and recommend improvements. Through these committees, pupils can help influence everything from classroom experiences and wellbeing to community partnerships, charitable initiatives and the celebration of diversity.

Action Planning and Student Leadership
Each year, the School Council and its committees develop their own:
Annual aims and priorities
Action plans
Success criteria
Improvement projects
These plans are informed by student feedback and focus on making meaningful improvements across the school.
Throughout the year, committees review their progress, evaluate the impact of their work and identify new opportunities to support school improvement.

Working with School Leaders
The School Council meets regularly to discuss issues affecting students and works closely with the Senior Leadership Team.
Council members have opportunities to:
Raise concerns and suggestions from students
Discuss proposed school developments
Provide feedback on school policies and procedures
Contribute to school improvement initiatives
Share the views and experiences of learners
This regular dialogue ensures that student voice remains at the heart of decision-making at Ysgol Bryn Alyn.
Representing Students at Governor Level
Ysgol Bryn Alyn's School Council is also represented at meetings of the Board of Governors.
This provides students with an important opportunity to:
Share the views of learners directly with governors
Report on School Council activities and achievements
Contribute to discussions about the future development of the school
Ensure that students' perspectives are considered in strategic decision-making
This level of involvement demonstrates our commitment to meaningful student participation and leadership.

Training and Development
All School Council members receive training each year to help them carry out their roles effectively.
Training includes areas such as:
Student leadership
Communication skills
Effective representation
Running meetings
Action planning
Promoting student voice
Equality and inclusion
This training helps students develop valuable skills that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond.
Be an Active Stakeholder
Pupil participation is open to everyone. Whether a pupil chooses to become a representative, join a committee, respond to a survey, attend a meeting or simply share an idea, every contribution is valuable.
We want all pupils at Ysgol Bryn Alyn to feel that they belong, that their opinions matter and that they can make a difference. By working together, pupils and staff can continue to build a school community in which everyone is respected, included and empowered to succeed.

Speak up. Get involved. Help shape the future of Ysgol Bryn Alyn.
