Homework
Homework At YBA

Our approach to homework
Our homework is designed to help pupils remember what they have learned, build on their classroom learning and develop positive, independent study habits.
In Years 7–9, homework will mainly focus on recalling important knowledge and vocabulary and strengthening the essential skills and understanding pupils develop in lessons.
In Years 10–11, pupils will also complete revision, examination-style practice and activities that help them apply their knowledge with increasing confidence.
All homework is recorded on EduLink, so pupils and families can easily see the task, deadline and any instructions. Our homework timetable helps to spread tasks across the week. The times shown are approximate weekly totals and are intended to help us maintain a balanced and manageable workload for pupils.
We understand that sometimes online access or other circumstances can make completing homework difficult. Pupils can request a paper copy, an alternative format or other appropriate support where needed.
For creative and practical subjects, homework may include activities such as designing, making, practising or performing where these are the most effective ways to extend learning beyond the classroom.
Most importantly, we want homework to help pupils develop positive routines and experience success. There is no sanction for a missed homework task. If a pupil is regularly finding it difficult to complete homework, staff will work with the pupil and their family to understand what is causing the difficulty and identify ways we can help.
Accessing Homework

All homework is set through Edulink, our home-school communication platform, with supporting resources provided through Edulink and/or Google Classroom.
Through Edulink, pupils and parents can:
View homework tasks and submission deadlines.
Access supporting resources and instructions.
Keep track of completed and upcoming assignments.
Add personal study and revision tasks to support independent learning.
We encourage parents to check Edulink regularly and support their child in managing their workload and meeting deadlines.
Going Beyond the Classroom
Alongside regular homework, pupils may have opportunities to complete additional enrichment and challenge activities designed to deepen their understanding and encourage curiosity. These optional tasks support our commitment to developing independent, ambitious learners who are willing to explore subjects beyond the classroom.
Supporting Your Child
Parents and carers can support their child by helping them establish a regular homework routine. If a task is taking significantly longer than expected, or if your child needs additional support, please contact the relevant subject teacher.
Parents can support homework by:
Providing a quiet space for study.
Encouraging regular homework routines.
Helping pupils organise their time effectively.
Promoting independence while offering encouragement and support when needed.
Homework plays an important role in helping pupils develop the REACH values of Resilience, Effort, Aspiration, Cooperation and Honour, preparing them for success both in school and beyond.
If you have any questions please contact your child’s subject teacher.
